Theft Investigation Leads To Multiple Drug Charges

WARSAW — What started out as a theft from workplace call ended with a Warsaw man facing multiple felony charges for drugs and theft.
Eddie Eugene Brumfield II, 31, 221 N. Columbia St., Warsaw, is being charged with possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a level 5 felony; possession of cocaine with enhancing circumstances, a level 5 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On Jan. 14, an officer with the Warsaw Police department responded to a theft call at Ranger Material. Management at Ranger Material advised that a previous employee, Brumfield, had stolen tools from the company and charged items at Napa Auto Parts to the business account without their permission or consent.
Representatives of the company further advised that Brumfield was terminated on Jan. 14. When employees inventoried his work truck, they found various tools missing valued at $1,288.10. The employees advised that there were also items purchased and charged to Ranger Material that were not located.
On Jan. 26, officers obtained a search warrant for Brumfield’s residence regarding an unrelated incident. According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers discovered tools matching the missing tools from Ranger Material, digital scales, a glass smoking device, a marijuana water bong and another glass smoking device with marijuana residue.
According to the officers, they also searched a safe which contained a suspected drug ledger, digital scales with marijuana and methamphetamine residue, a bag of marijuana, a bag of methamphetamine and a handgun.
Officers then arrested Brumfield. On his person, they located two plastic bags with powder substances. One of the bags was identified as methamphetamine and the other was identified as cocaine.
On Jan. 29, an officer with the WPD spoke with Brumfield, who admitted to stealing tools from Ranger Material and possessing methamphetamine.
Brumfield was arrested on Jan. 25 and later released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing tomorrow, Feb. 14.
