South Bend Man Arrested For Using False UPCs To Purchase Items At Walmart
WARSAW — A South Bend man was arrested after using UPCs for youth bows to purchase adult crossbows at Walmart.
Kory John Jackson, 46, 217 W. Cripe St., South Bend, is being charged with two counts of making a false sales document, level 6 felonies; and two counts of theft, class A misdemeanors.
On Dec. 23, 2018, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to Walmart in regards to thefts that occurred on Dec. 14 and Dec. 18.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a store employee said on Dec. 14, a male subject, identified as Jackson, entered Walmart and selected an adult crossbow valued at $298 and a youth bow valued at $22.82. Jackson took the UPC off the youth bow and took the adult crossbow to a self-checkout register.
Jackson scanned the youth bow UPC and paid for the value of the youth bow. He then left the store with the adult crossbow without attempting to purchase the crossbow for its full value.
On Dec. 18, Jackson went to Walmart again and committed the same acts. He took a UPC off a youth bow and used it to purchase an adult crossbow.
The employee confirmed the subject that used the false UPCs to purchase the adult crossbows was Jackson due to prior incidents.
Jackson was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 17, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
