Community Helps Police Arrest Coleman
ENCHANTED HILLS — The residents of Enchanted Hills helped police arrest Roger Coleman Saturday night, Jan. 12, after he eluded police for several weeks. Coleman was reportedly wanted on five warrants.
He was booked Saturday evening on three counts of felony failure to appear warrants. He reportedly also had two bond revocation warrants. According to information obtained from the sheriff’s office, charges of resisting law enforcement and being a habitual traffic violator have been filed.
Numerous complaints were received by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Saturday around 7:14 p.m., according to Sheriff Kyle Dukes. The complaints were of a male on a dirt bike operating it recklessly by using the dirt bike to do doughnuts in the snow.
Sgt. Don McCune, who was off duty, radioed it may be Coleman, whom police had been actively looking for, for several weeks on five active felony warrants. McCune also advised officers to use caution. Dukes stated each time a tip had been received regarding Coleman’s whereabouts, Coleman would take off on a dirt bike.
Deputy Todd Eby responded and observed what appeared to be dirt bike tracks in the parking lot of Wawasee Chapel. Eby followed the tracks to a residence and called for assistance.
Upon the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Mickem, they observed two individuals run out of the house and get into a pickup truck and take off. Eby followed the truck, activating his lights and siren, however, the driver of the truck failed to stop.
Following a short pursuit the driver drove the truck into a field. A male, later identified as Coleman, exited the truck and began running in a cornfield with the two officers in pursuit on foot. The passenger, a female, remained in the vehicle.
Eby pulled his Taser and attempted to fire the device when it failed to go off. Mickem then deployed his Taser, but missed the suspect. After installing a new cartridge, Eby again fired the taser, striking Coleman in the back. Coleman fell to the ground and was taken into custody.
“I want to thank the Enchanted Hills community for calling in this complaint. If it wasn’t for them calling, we would not have apprehended Coleman,” stated Dukes.
Coleman is being held on no bond.
