UPDATE: Fire Damages Duplex Near Wawasee High School
SYRACUSE — A fire this morning, Thursday, Jan. 10, at 302 and 304 S. Syracuse-Webster Road, Syracuse, has been ruled as accidental.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory Fire Chief Mickey Scott reports the department responded to a report of a structure fire at 11:40 a.m. The owners are Terry Moser and Judy Moser. At the time of the fire, the owners reported being inside of the structure. One of the occupants suffered smoke inhalation, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
When the first firefighter arrived at 11:42 a.m. heavy smoke was noted on all four sides of the structure. The occupants of the home were out of the structure.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished at 12:04 p.m.
Damage to the structure and contents has been estimated up to $20,000. Most of the fire and smoke damage was contained to the 302 S. Syracuse-Webster Road portion of the structures. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowners with clothing and shelter.
No injuries to firefighters were reported during firefighting operations. The last firefighter cleared the scene at 1:33 p.m.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory was assisted by personnel and/or equipment from North Webster Fire Department, Benton Township Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and Syracuse Police Department. Milford Fire Department was placed on standby for Turkey Creek Fire Territory during the event.
