Neil F. Johnston — UPDATED
Neil F. Johnston, 84 of Rochester, passed away at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018.
On April 29, 1934, Johnston was born in Rochester. He was a treasured son of Harry and Evelyn Funk Johnston. Growing up he shared his childhood with two brothers Harold and Bill. After his 1952 graduation, he served our country by enlisting with the United States Army.
At Rochester’s 1st Christian Church, Johnston was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jean “Jeanie” Wenrick Orisich with Rev. Teal Younce officiating. They shared more than 34 years of life’s adventures.
With a passion for agriculture, Johnston assisted his father with the family farming operation. He also worked for many years, for the Indiana State Highway Department, maintaining Indiana’s heavily traveled highways.
At home, Johnston and Jeanie annually planted a truck patch garden. They enjoyed maintaining the beautiful garden and sharing the bountiful harvest. He enjoyed taking walks around the neighborhood. To relax, Johnston watched TV. He especially loved watching all kinds of sports.
Johnston’s survivors include two daughters MaryJane Glass and Jean Marie Shultz both of Rochester; four grandchildren Kayla Shultz, Johnny Leedom, Jason Leedom and Chris Orisich, six great-grandchildren, two nephews Billy Johnston and Scotty Johnston.
Preceding Neil in death are his parents, beloved wife Jeanie on Nov. 7, 2015, a son Jim Orisich and his two Johnston brothers Harold and Bill.
A celebration of the life of Johnston will be at 1 p.m.Friday, Jan. 4, in the Good Family Funeral Home 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. Friends may visit with his family from 11 a.m. until the time of his service. Burial will follow in Rochester’s IOOF Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Fulton County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team.
