KOSCIUSKO — Many residents in Warsaw and surrounding areas reported hearing a large boom around 6:30 p.m. last night, Dec. 30. But the reason for the boom remains unclear.

Kosciusko County Emergency Dispatch was immediately flooded with calls reporting the loud sound, and emergency responders in the area began looking for the cause of the sound. According to dispatch reports, the sound seemed to originate in the CR 200S area, with residents near there seeing a large flash and feeling their homes shake.

While the cause of the boom remains unknown for now, many residents are sharing their own theories for the sound.

Some of the more likely theories include a frost boom or a cryoseism, a sonic boom or noises from a large meteor shower. Some of the more comical theories being shared on social media threads include aliens, loud bodily functions and even the Illuminati.

Local officials will continue to investigate to see if the true cause of the large boom can be discovered.
