Leesburg Students Learn About Eastern Woodland Native Americans

Students were able to create and showcase their own masks while learning about the False Face Society.
LEESBURG — Students at Leesburg Elementary recently began discovering the world of the Eastern Woodland Native Americans, through both in class and out of class educational experiences.
Students were given the opportunity to measure a longhouse – a traditional Eastern Woodland Native American home.
In addition, the children discovered the history of the False Face Society, a medicinal society that utilized ancient healing rituals among the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. Members of the society created and wore “false face” masks to use during healing rituals. Students were able to create and showcase their own masks while learning about the society.
