Mentone Man Allegedly Chokes Female After She Fails To Answer Phone
MENTONE — A Mentone man is facing charges after allegedly choking a female and destroying property when he became upset because the female was not answering her phone.
Killian Chase Hilliard, 22, 506 W. Main St., Mentone, is being charged with domestic battery with a child under the age of 16 present, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; and two counts of criminal mischief, class B misdemeanors.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Thursday, Oct. 18, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic abuse complaint. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the female victim, who stated that Hilliard came to her house upset because she wouldn’t answer her phone. The victim stated she didn’t answer the phone because her phone was downstairs while she was upstairs.
The female advised that when Hilliard entered the house he went upstairs and grabbed her by the neck, choking her. Hilliard reportedly also picked up a television and threw it on the floor, close to where a child was lying.
As Hilliard was going down the stairs, he allegedly ripped out all of the wooden handrail. He also threw a bottle, putting a hole in a wall, and broke the windshield of a vehicle belonging to another male. Damage to the vehicle was reported as less than $750. Damage to the female’s home was also reported as less than $750.
Three minors were present in the home when Hilliard allegedly choked the female. Hilliard was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail on Monday, Nov. 19, on a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
