Warsaw Man Facing Felonies After Police Say He Stole 60 Firearms
WARSAW — A Warsaw man faces felony charges after police say he stole 60 firearms. The same man was arrested last week after he was found in possession of drugs and a firearm while driving.
Todd Henry Shumaker, 33, 712 South Side Drive, Warsaw, is facing charges of burglary, a level 5 felony, and theft, a level 6 felony. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 16, for possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a level 5 felony; possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
Court documents related to the burglary were filed today, Oct. 22, for an incident that occurred in September. On Sept. 22, an officer with the Kosciusko Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary at Albertson’s Sports Shop, Warsaw. The owner advised that sometime between Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, unknown subjects entered into the store and stole approximately 60 firearms and ammunition. The officer was able to observe footprints and blood from where the burglar had cut himself.
The officer later received information that Shumaker was involved in the theft. Shumaker admitted to the officer that he broke into the shop and stole firearms and ammunition. Shumaker told the officer he sold the firearms for $3,600. Shumaker gave consent for the officer to check his shoes. The officer matched the footprint found at the shop to Shumaker’s shoes. The officer also observed a cut that Shumaker admitted happened while inside the shop.
The previous arrest occurred on Oct. 16, after an officer with the Warsaw Police Department observed a vehicle he knew to have false and fictitious registration. The officer had prior knowledge that the vehicle belonged to Shumaker, who had a suspended driver’s license.
A traffic stop was conducted and Shumaker was identified as the driver of the vehicle. Shumaker admitted to having a rifle in the vehicle. A K9 unit conducted an outer air search of the vehicle and made a positive alert.
Upon searching the vehicle, the officer located digital scales with methamphetamine residue, a bag of methamphetamine, $308, a syringe, a rifle, ammunition and a glass smoking device.
Shumaker has been in custody at the Kosciusko County Jail since his arrest on Oct. 16.
