Warsaw Man Arrested For Shooting And Beating Male Subject
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after shooting and beating a male subject.
Carlos Arnold Pagan Ortiz, 34, 716 W. Center St. B., Warsaw, is being charged with battery with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon, both level 5 felonies.
On Oct. 9, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a report of battery at Service Liquors. When the officer arrived he observed a male subject with blood and bruises on his face.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the male advised he was sitting by Warsaw City Hall reading a book when a subject, identified as Pagan Ortiz, started punching and kicking him. The subject believed Pagan Ortiz had a BB gun.
The officer obtained surveillance video of the area and observed the male sitting next to a second male subject, with two other males and a female present. The surveillance video showed Pagan Ortiz punching and slapping the male subject. Pagan Ortiz then backed up, pulled a black handgun out of his waistband, and shot the male two times in the head at close range.
Pagan Ortiz then walked off for about two minutes. He then came back and continued to punch, slap, and kick the male.
The officer spoke with Pagan Ortiz, who admitted to grabbing the BB gun from his waistband to intimidate the male. He said he wanted to “teach him a lesson.”
Pagan Ortiz admitted that he knew what he did was wrong.
He was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 10 with an $11,000 surety and cash bond.
