HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Republican incumbents John E. Hart, Steve Sponseller and Gerald Weirick will run unopposed for the three seats on the Harrison Township advisory board.

Republican incumbent Tracy Moyer is the sole candidate for the Harrison Township trustee position. 

John Hart     

John Hart

Hart has served on the Harrison Township advisory board for one year. He resides in Mentone and has lived there since the age of 6. Hart is a bailiff for Kosciusko County Superior courts 2 & 3. He retired from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department after 29 1/2 years of service. He also served for 30 years at the Mentone Fire Department.

Hart and his wife, Becky, have been married for 44 years and have two adult children, Carmen and Shelley. They also have four grandchildren.

Hart enjoys working in his garden, amateur radio, fishing and spending time with family.

Gerald Weirick      

Gerald Weirick

Weirick has served on the Harrison Township advisory board for approximately 30 years. He has lived southwest of Warsaw all of his 81 years, minus the three and a half years he spent serving in the army. 

Weirick retired from R.R. Donnelley & Sons after 38 years. He and his wife, Jeanne, have been married 57 years and have three daughters: Gail (and husband Bob) Livingston; Teresa (and husband Larry) Landis; and Nancy (and husband Michael) Hobbs. 

“My time is spent doing yard work, spending time with family and watching sports on TV and Fox News,” said Weirick, who added that he also enjoys spending time with his shih tzu, Buddy.

Steve Sponseller  

Steve Sponseller

Sponseller has served as a Harrison Township advisory board member for 12 years. He also serves on the Harrison Center Cemetery Board and is chairman for the Ad Council Etna Green UMC. 

Sponseller resides at Crystal Lake, south of Atwood, and has always lived in the area. He is a self-employed farmer. Sponseller has been married to Jan for 43 years and has two sons, Scott and Aaron. He also has eight grandchildren and a cat named Daisy.

Sponseller describes himself as a collector of “stuff,” including Case tractors and equipment, toy trucks, tin banks and round advertising thermometers.

Tracy Moyer

Moyer has served as the Harrison Township trustee for eight years. She currently also holds positions at the Four Way Ambulance Service and on the Tri-County Fire Control Board. 

Moyer is a resident of Atwood where she has lived her entire life. She has been married to her husband, Jim, for 34 years. They have a daughter, Trista (and husband Jeremy) Sherman, a son, Christian (and wife Amber) Moyer and a granddaughter, Avery.
