Chautauqua Celebrates Another Year Of Service
SYRACUSE — Chautauqua Wawasee presented two community awards at its second annual Celebrate Chautauqua banquet Monday, Oct. 1, at Oakwood Park.
Ann Strong won the Howard and Myra Brembeck Individual Award, given to an individual who exemplifies passion and support of the Chautauqua-Wawasee mission and vision for the Syracuse-Wawasee area.
The Parent Family Foundation captured the Ian & Mimi Rolland Corporate Award, recognizing an organization for continued support of the Chautauqua programs and events throughout the year.
Director Tammy Cotton recounted the programs and events Chautauqua sponsored in 2018: a trauma workshop, pops concert, Oakwood Summerfest, fine arts festival, Wawasee Jazz Party, a fall color tour aboard the S.S. Lilypad, and a presentation by Bobby Bones: “You’re Not Alone Battling Stigmas and Overcoming Obstacles.”
Cotton also listed Chautauqua events in the coming years:
• 2019, a masquerade ball as part of the Syracuse Winter Carnival
• 2020, the Purdue Glee Club
• 2021, hosting the Chautauqua Trail annual meeting, with other Chautauqua organizations attending from all over the country.
“The Celebrate Chautauqua event has a dual purpose,” Cotton said. “Not only is it important to recognize those who help make it possible for Chautauqua to bring quality programs and events to our community, but also to bring more awareness of who Chautauqua is and what it provides: quality programming that encompasses the four pillars of the Chautauqua history and heritage, arts, education, recreation and religion.”
