Volleyball Results: Sept. 18
FORT WAYNE CARROLL 3, WARSAW 1
In a matchup of big school powers, Class 4-A No. 7 Carroll won a potential semi-state showdown.
The Chargers took care of business in the fieldhouse 25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 25-15. Jordan Martin and Anna Frey each had nine kills while Karsyn Moller and Madison Alday had eight kills apiece. Martin added 11 digs and Taya Haffner had 37 assists.
The Lady Tigers saw Betty Barnett lead the attack with 14 kills while Kennedy Lauck had 11 blocks to go with six kills. Kacy Bragg added 33 assists, eight digs and six blocks.
Warsaw (16-6) will visit Wawasee Thursday in an Northern Lakes Conference matchup.
NORTHWOOD 3, GOSHEN 2
In a wild Northern Lakes Conference matchup Tuesday night, NorthWood found itself two points better than Goshen.
NorthWood took games one and three 25-17, 25-12, with Goshen taking games two and four 27-25, 25-21. In the fifth and deciding frame, NorthWood withstood the RedHawks’ bid for its second NLC win.
Instead, NorthWood got its second with a big performance up front from Maddy Payne with 14 kills and five blocks and Kate Rulli with 12 kills and two blocks. Defensively, Caroline Mullett had 12 digs to go with her 40 assists, Whitney Gessinger had 17 digs and four assists and both Grace Knisley and Ali Knepp had a pair of aces.
NorthWood’s JV (11-4) got six kills each from Alana Lehman and Ella Gongwer to roll past Goshen 25-8, 25-7. Halle DeMien led the defense with 12 digs and Annika Bennett had 17 assists and three aces.
NorthWood (17-6, 2-2 NLC) will stay in conference to face Northridge Thursday.
WINAMAC 3, TRITON 0
A very competitive matchup saw Winamac get the conference win over the Trojans.
The Hoosier North Athletic Conference rivals went 25-22, 28-26, 25-23 in a razor tight affair.
The Viers girls were stars for Triton, with Abbey registering 10 kills and Alyxa posting 21 digs and three aces. Jaela Faulkner had 18 digs, Dylanie Miller had 18 assists, Lexia Hostrawser had nine kills and Emma Hepler had eight helpers.
Triton’s JV won over Winamac 25-16, 22-25, 15-6.
Triton (3-13, 1-3 HNAC) will take on LaVille Thursday.
LAKEVIEW 8TH GRADE 2, BREMEN 0
Lakeview made easy work of Bremen in a 25-9, 25-15 win Thursday.
Caitlyn Patrick had six assists, four kills and three aces to lead Lakeview. Kinsey Atkins had three digs, a kill, an ace and an assist, and Mallory Mulligan had five aces and a kill.
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, BREMEN 0
Bremen awoke in the second game, but Lakeview was able to prevail 25-5, 25-23.
Colette Blackburn had four kills, two aces and a block to lead Lakeview while teammate Kenzie Chivington had four kills, two aces and two assists and Olivia Devenney had seven aces.
MILFORD 7TH GRADE GOLD 2, GARRETT 1
GARRETT 2, MILFORD 7TH GRADE GREEN 0
Milford made the long road trip to Garrett and came away with a split. The gold team won after splitting the first two games while the green were beaten in straight sets. Individual stats were not given.
EDGEWOOD 8TH GRADE 2, MANCHESTER 0
Edgewood rolled over Manchester by a 25-8, 25-11 count.
Katie McKibbin led the team with 12 aces, four assists and a pair of kills while teammate Macy Bonifield had six kills, three aces and an assist.
EDGEWOOD 7TH GRADE 2, MANCHESTER 0
Edgewood also took care of manners quickly in a 25-6, 25-8 final.
Paxton Baker and Lacie Walden each had seven aces while Maddy McSherry added four aces. The Tigers as a team registered 23 aces.
