Cromwell Pair Injured In US 6 Crash
NEW PARIS — A man and woman from Cromwell were injured in a head on crash Friday evening on US 6, west of CR 11, New Paris. The accident was at 11:33 p.m.
Marvin Whitacre, 48, Cromwell, and Jenice Whitacre, 58, Cromwell, were both transported to Elkhart General Hospital following the crash. Marvin Whitacre complained of shoulder pain, while Jenice Whitacre suffered rib and spinal pain. The driver of the other vehicle, Marvin Whitener, 51, Elkhart, suffered severe head trauma and was flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department report Whitener was westbound on US 6 in his 2002 Buick Century, when Marvin Whitacre, who was eastbound on US 6 in a 2011 Chevrolet Volt, passed another motor vehicle. Whitener reacted and went off the roadway and lost control of his vehicle, coming back onto the roadway hitting the Whitacre vehicle, which had completed the pass and was in the eastbound lane of travel. The vehicles collided head on in the eastbound lane.
Officers report the Whitaker vehicle rotated several times and went off the roadway, south of US 6.
