Syracuse Public Library Announces Upcoming Events
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library will hold the following events in September:
Book Clubs Keep Reading Motivation High
People that join a book club usually have similar motivations. They want the challenge of reading a book that they might not have thought to read. They want to meet other readers and are interested in their reaction. And, time just goes so quickly so that a monthly meeting is a reminder to complete a book.
The Syracuse Library is offering three book clubs during the second week of September. At 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, the Turkey Creek Readers talk about Florida in the 1970s. Playwright and author Phillip DePoy is working on a series with a different take on Florida-crazy with “Cold Florida.”
Children have book clubs that meet at 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Older kids meet on the first Tuesday and younger kids in kindergarten through second grade meet on the second Tuesday, Sept. 11. The first book is “Nate the Great.” Teen Book Club is forming, with a first meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. They are meeting in the teen area.

A cooking club is starting and meeting for the first time at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. The group is called the Magnolia Cooking Club, with the first meeting a carry-in with recipe sampling from the book. Future times will cover different food topics.
The bus trip to Grand Rapids for the first weekend of ArtPrize and a stop at the Meijer Gardens Sculpture Park ties together the connection of science and art.
