Bethel College Ranked On Best Bang For The Buck And Top Master’s Universities Lists
MISHAWAKA — For the third year in a row, Washington Monthly has ranked Bethel College in the top 10 in the Midwest on its annual list of the “Best Bang for the Buck Colleges,” coming in at number seven.
Bethel is also one of only four Indiana schools to appear on the guide’s “Top Master’s Universities” list, which ranked Bethel number 66 in the nation.
The Washington Monthly guide rates colleges that are doing the best job of helping non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
According to Washington Monthly 2018 College Guide Guest Editor Kevin Carey, the guide gives high marks to colleges that help students “graduate and earn a good living without too much debt.” He also notes that the rankings “give extra weight to colleges that send their graduates out into the world to serve the community at large.”
These rankings are determined using a variety of data, including the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Ratings are based on contribution to the public good in three broad categories: Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country.)
The Washington Monthly College Guide is published annually in the fall when many students are starting their college application process. To learn more about the 2018 guide, visit washingtonmonthly.com.
Other recognition for Bethel College includes being named as a 2018 College of Distinction, a Money Magazine “Best College for Your Money 2018” and being named a top-tier college by U.S. News and World Report every year since 2005.
