Warsaw Couple Faces Neglect Charges After Multiple Injuries Discovered On Child
WARSAW — A Warsaw couple is facing neglect charges after hospital officials discovered multiple injuries on a child. A representative of Child Protective Services states that the couple has 25 reports of neglect against them.
Franklin and Ashlie Bright, 1692 E. CR 200N, Warsaw, are being charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury, a level 5 felony.
On July 7, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in reference to a possible neglect of a dependant. A representative with CPS informed the officer that Ashlie Bright was in the hospital giving birth. The father of the child, Franklin Bright, arrived with the couple’s other children. One of the children had multiple injuries that concerned the hospital staff.
The injured child was examined by an emergency room physician. The doctor bruises and cuts that covered the child’s body. The doctor determined that the injuries were inflicted and indicative of abuse and should have received medical attention.
On July 8, the officer interviewed Franklin Bright about the injuries. Franklin Bright gave explanations about multiple injuries and stated he took the child to Parkview Physicians Group in Warsaw for some of the injuries. It was later discovered that the child had not been admitted to Parkview Physicians Group since November 2017.
On July 9, the officer interviewed three of the couple’s other children. The children were able to explain many of the injuries and stated that the child was not taken to the hospital.
CPS provided paperwork that states there has been 25 opened cases or assessments on reports of neglect that name Franklin Bright or Ashlie Bright as the perpetrator. These reports have come from multiple different sources.
Franklin Bright was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on July 8 and has since been released on bond. He is ordered to appear in court on Aug. 30. Ashlie Bright has a warrant out for her arrest.
