KOSCIUSKO — A Leesburg man was arrested after inappropriately touching a female.
Jeffery James Oswalt, 38, 5219 E. CR 500N 3, Leesburg, is being charged with sexual battery, a level 6 felony; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
On July 24, an officer with the North Webster Police Department was waved down by a subject, who said that a female minor had just been touched inappropriately by an adult male. An officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the North Webster officer about the incident. The KCSD officer met with the female minor.
The female said she and her two friends were taken to Oswalt’s residence by a male subject. Oswalt provided the three with alcohol while the male subject went fishing. While drinking, Oswalt was making inappropriate comments to the female, alluding to them having sex.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the female’s two friends passed out from alcohol consumption. She and Oswalt were the only people awake in the residence. Oswalt came up behind her and began to inappropriately touch her. Oswalt also attempted to unbuckle her belt. The female pushed him away and ran out of the residence, contacting an individual to come pick her up.
Officers spoke with the male subject who was fishing during the incident. The male said he never went into the residence, but while he was fishing he heard the female and one of her friends yelling for him to come to them. Upon getting back to the two, the male saw the female crying and confirmed that she said Oswalt had inappropriately touched her.
Oswalt was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 16, with a $15,250 surety and cash bond.
