Man Charged With Theft After Attempting To Steal Pet Items, Gummy Worms
KOSCIUSKO — A man is facing charges after reportedly attempting to steal items from Menards.
Charles C. Gross, 38, 5279 E. CR 450N, Rolling Prairie, is being charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
According to court documents, on Aug. 8, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a theft at Menards. A manager at Menards advised that he observed a male, later identified as Gross, pass all points of pay without paying for any of the items in his grocery cart.
Items in the cart included two finish nailers, Petsafe Stubborn Dog containment system, wireless pet containment, one SportDOG inground fence, a 10-inch pole saw, one Brute Taylor, Mountain Dew, two ABC keypads and black forest Gummy Worms, with a total value of $2,464.54.
The manager stated he stopped Gross and asked to see his receipt. According to the manager, Gross advised he left his card in his vehicle. When the manager told Gross to stay in the store, Gross reportedly fled from the store on foot before being apprehended by police officers.
Gross admitted that another male subject had been with him at Menards. Upon reviewing surveillance video, officers observed another male subject walking out of Menards with a trashcan and generator. The male walked past all points of pay without paying for the items.
Gross was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 7, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
