Volleyball Results: Aug. 14
PENN 3, NORTHWOOD 0
After scrounging out a tough four-game win Monday night against Bethany Christian, NorthWood struggled against Class 4-A volleyball power Penn. The Kingsmen invaded The Pit and came away with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-14 triumph over the host Panthers.
Maria Schwindaman and Molly Pooler combined for 17 kills for the Kingsmen while Addy Kois and Ally Hickey totaled 30 assists.
For the Panthers, Maddy Payne had six kills and three blocks while Kate Rulli added five kills. Whitnye Gessinger led the defense with 19 digs and Caroline Mullet had 15 assists.
Penn took the JV contest by a 25-19, 25-18 scoreline. Pacing NorthWood were Bre Wise with seven digs and five kills, Halle DeMien with 21 digs and Annika Bennett with 13 assists.
NorthWood (1-1) will next compete Saturday at the Tom Heck Invite.
WHITKO 2, LCA 0
In a JV-only contest Tuesday evening, Whitko produced a 25-4, 25-13 win against Lakeland Christian Academy.
The Wildcats had Reese Bradford record 13 aces to lead what was a big serving night for Whitko. The team as a whole had 28 aces against the Cougars, and Bradford also had five assists on her night. Morgan Dyck had seven aces and two kills in the winning effort.
LCA is listed to play next Thursday against MCAC Wildcats.
LEO 3, WARSAW 1
In a match where neither team was giving an inch, Leo found enough mustard at home to take the ‘W’ in a 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23 four-gamer.
Brooke Smith and Neveah Shugart were huge for Leo, combining for 38 kills, Smith mashing 25 on her own. Smith added a whopping 52 assists to go with six digs, two aces and a block in a busy night.
Kacy Bragg also had her plate full for the Tigers, assisting on 29 points, accounting for 11 blocks, six kills, four digs and four aces. Kylie Smith had 23 digs, Kennedy Lauck 10 blocks and six kills, Katie Swanson nine kills and four assists and Betty Barnett six kills.
Warsaw (0-1) will visit Huntington North Thursday, the match to be played at Huntington University due to construction at HNHS.
