Along The South Shoreline Of Lake Wawasee
SYRACUSE — Centennial Home Series will be presented 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Drive. It is the second in the 2018 series sponsored by the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum.
It features 100 or more year-old houses along the south shoreline of Lake Wawasee. The five homes were built at the time when the Vawter Park Hotel and WACO Amusement Co. were anchoring area.
Be captivated by stories of a home that has always been owned by descendants of one family. A similar structure along South Shore Drive is believed to be built by the same builder.
Hear about the South Shore Bridge Club and how a son playing the banjo at WACO led his family to purchase their home.
Another home had a “haunted” era when the house sat empty between owners – one an insurance executive and another a man whose company provided the ironworks for the Indianapolis City Market. The present homeowners have made the house look as much like the original as possible.
From the water, the house with the vine painted chimney can be seen. Learn about its long existence as a hotel.
