Theft Call Leads To Drug Arrest Of Cromwell Man
KOSCIUSKO — Police were called to a local store in regards to a male stealing items. When the officer arrived he also discovered drugs and paraphernalia.
Jacob Dean Schmidt, 44, 685 April Drive, Cromwell, is being charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; attempted theft, a class A misdemeanor; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On June 26, an officer with the Syracuse Police Department responded to a theft call at Dollar General. Kosciusko County Dispatch was given a description of the subject and advised that his pockets were full of stolen items.
The officer arrived and located the male subject, identified as Schmidt, at the register. The officer saw that Schmidt’s pockets were bulging and told Schmidt he knew he was stealing. At that point, Schmidt admitted that he had a package of stolen socks in his pocket.
Schmidt’s pockets were then emptied. In the right pant pocket, a glass smoking device and a bag of methamphetamine were discovered. In the left pant pocket, a package of stolen socks and a stolen bottle of Pepto-Bismol were discovered.
Schmidt was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on June 26, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
