Annual Barbecue Aids Turkey Creek Fire Territory
SYRACUSE — Just follow the pleasant aroma to the annual Firemen’s Barbecue Fundraiser at Fire Station I on Huntington Street (SR 13) in Syracuse.
Chicken halves, pork chops and corn on the cob went on sale at about 10 a.m. today, Saturday, July 7. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Syracuse Fire Department of the Turkey Creek Fire Territory. The barbecue is held near the Fourth of July each year.
Mickey Scott, fire chief, estimated the fundraiser is at least 30 years old, if not older. At one time a hog roast was involved.
Six hundred chicken halves and pork chops, in addition to 232 ears of corn, were prepared beginning at about 6 a.m. today. They will be sold until no longer available.
Drive through service is available too.
