Father, Son Arrested After Fight Involving A Knife
WARSAW — Both a father and son were arrested after an argument turned physical, eventually leading to the father stabbing his son with a knife.
Johnny Gomez, 51, 3762 W. Old Road 30 618, Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
Joseph Santana Gomez, 18, 3752 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Sunday, June 17, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a domestic complaint at a local campground. Upon arrival, Johnny advised he was arguing with his son Joseph. According to Johnny, Joseph pushed him down and hit him on the head. The officer was able to observe redness on Johnny’s face.
Joseph told the officer that he and his father were arguing when Johnny pushed and hit him. According to Joseph, Johnny approached him with a small pocket knife and stabbed him in the back. The officer was able to observe a small, straight cut on Joseph’s back.
A witness told officers that she observed Johnny and Joseph in a physical altercation. Specifically, she saw Jonny on top of Joseph, punching him repeatedly in the face. She later witnessed Johnny chasing Joseph with a knife in his hand. According to the witness, the entire fight took place in front of two minor children.
Joseph has charges pending in Kosciusko County for battery resulting in bodily injury.
Johnny has four previous convictions in Kosciusko County for domestic battery, battery resulting in bodily injury and battery.
Both were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on June 18.
