Warsaw Library Champions Its Summer Reading Programs
WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Public Library is touting its Libraries Rock! summer reading program, an initiative that celebrates music. People who are interested can register online or at the library’s upstairs reference desk. Libraries Rock! and other summer reading programs can be learned about online at www.warsawlibrary.org under Calendar of Events or by using the mobile app, WCPL2Go.
Tuesday, July 31, by 8 p.m. is the deadline to report reading and to receive drawing tickets or incentive prizes. Books and audiobooks in physical and e-formats count toward the contest.
Participants can expand their music horizons using eCollections to borrow ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and music using Hoopla, Overdrive, Freegal, and RBdigital’s Qello Concerts.
Rock ‘n’ Roll fans can browse the library’s Beatles physical collections. “The Beatles Lyrics: The Stories Behind The Music, Including The Handwritten Drafts of More Than 100 classic Beatles Songs” is fascinating reading. Editor Hunter Davies said there are more than 2,000 books about Beatles, but what really matters is their music. In seven years, the Beatles left a range of songs and lyrics with narrative stories, images, emotions and dreams. Most started with scraps of words or phrases or only a title or tune.
For teens who write lyrics, aspiring lyricists may enter original lyrics in the library’s June songwriting contest and learn the basics of playing acoustic guitar from award-winning singer/songwriter Douglas Haines on June 19 or July 26.
Patrons can sign up for free weekly Wowbrary email alerts of the library’s newest books, movies, and music or they can check out new children’s books now displayed in the Children’s area.
