Retaining Wall Completed At Oakwood Cemetery
WARSAW — At the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents meeting held Thursday, June 7, Oakwood Sexton Hal Heagy informed board members that the Monday before Memorial Day he arrived at the Oakwood office to find approximately three inches of water.
According to Heagy, the pop-off valve to the water heater broke at some point during the weekend. This resulted in water damage to the floors. Heagy requested permission from board members to continue with repair and remodeling work, adding that he would like to replace the carpet with tile. This was approved by board members.
Heagy added that at some point in the future he would like to have an area with a couple of computers where people can come in and look up genealogy information.
Bradford Landscaping completed the retaining wall along Lefty Drive.
“He did a beautiful job,” said Heagy. “It needed to be done due to erosion. His crew did a really nice job.”
In discussing the Memorial Day ceremony held at Oakwood, Heagy said Little Tiger Football came out to place flags at the headstones.
“We didn’t have nearly the crowd we had last year,” Heagy said. “I’m not sure if that was due to the heat, but it went really well. I’m going to give my boys an ‘atta boy’ because they worked their tails off like they do every day.”
