Edith M. Menzie
Edith M. Menzie, 93, of rural Larwill died at 6:19 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 1, 1924, at the Crissy Home in Pierceton, a daughter of the late Lester and Mary (Sellers) Dill. She attended Pierceton School all 12 years, graduating in 1943.
On Aug. 11, 1944 she was married to Forrest “Si” Menzie in Tampa, Fla. Returning to the area, they made their home in the Larwill area. Mr. Menzie died Nov. 27, 1996.
In 1955, she went to work for Holderbaum Insurance and Gwin, Behrens CPA in Columbia City. She retired in 1985. She then worked part-time at Countryside Antiques, Larwill.
She was a member of the Larwill United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer from 1977 to 1999. She then became a member of the Pierceton United Methodist Church where she was the assistant treasurer. She was a past treasurer of the Richland Community Association and a member of the Pierceton Order of Eastern Star since 1943.
In her senior years, she enjoyed time with her family and working around her home. She also made hats for newborns at the Parkview Whitley Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter: Athalia “Susie” (John) Peters, Pierceton; grandsons: Scott (Amber) Peters, South Whitley and Andrew Peters, Warsaw; a great-granddaughter: Cadence Peters; a sister: Athalia (Lawrence) Gross, Pierceton and many special nieces and nephews.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, David C. Menzie.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
