Triton Softball Sectional: LaCrosse Eliminates Trojans In Five
BOURBON — Triton’s softball team bowed out of the state series with a disappointing, 10-0 loss to LaCrosse Wednesday night in Bourbon. South Central downed West Central, 7-1, in the nightcap at Sectional 51 to set up a championship between the Satellites and the Tigers tonight at 7 p.m.
LaCrosse recorded nine hits and also benefited from three walks and four Triton errors in the five-inning win. The Tigers jumped on top punishing a leadoff walk in the top of the first, then broke it open with four runs in the second, including a home run by pitcher Hope Klemz, who reached base in each of her three plate appearances Wednesday. LaCrosse tacked on another five runs in the third, using five singles and a pair of outfield errors by the hosts, then held on through two innings for the truncated win.
Triton finished with just five hits versus six strikeouts in the shutout by Klemz. Klemz walked none but did hit one batsman. The Lady Trojans left a total four runners stranded in scoring position in the loss, including Delanie Miller and Kate Gardner at third and second in the second inning a night after the Trojans rallied back from a three-run deficit opposite Argos in Tuesday’s opener.
Taytum Hargrave doubled, and Crystal Brown, Maci Irvine and Miller and Gardner recorded the Trojans’ only hits of the night. Nikki Sechrist took the loss in the circle, giving up nine hits and three walks for eight earned runs going the full five innings.
Triton bids goodbye to a total of eight seniors with the loss, including one of the program’s all-time best players in Hargrave and one of its all-time best athletes in Sechrist, as well as Gardner, Brown, Irvine, Sara Stevens, Sydney Alford and Kacy Pugh.
