WINONA LAKE — The 15th annual Fat & Skinny Tire Fest is taking place this weekend, bringing community members and tourists together in the pursuit of a shared love of biking and the outdoors.
The event began Friday, May 18, with an opening ceremony and critical mass ride, and continues through Sunday. President of KCV Cycling Club Greg Demopoulos is one of the founders of the festival.
“I just want to thank everyone for their support, all the sponsors and volunteers, the community members. We can’t do this alone,” said Demopoulos. “We just want everyone to get out there and have a good time.”
It was reported that the first year of the event there were 30 volunteers, 433 cyclists and four events. This year there are 216 volunteers and 18 events, with 3,000 cyclists expected to participate.
The weekend events include road and mountain bike races, tours, family activities and events for kids, cycling instructions and demonstrations, live music and food and drink vendors.
