Elmira J. Deal
Elmira J. Deal, 98, formerly of Bippus, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Norwood Health and Rehabilitation, Huntington where she had been a resident for the past nine years.
She was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Cleveland Township, Whitley County, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Anna Mae (Rupley) Cooper. Her formative years were spent in Cleveland Township where she graduated from South Whitley High School.
On Feb. 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Paul G. Deal. They made their home in Tunker then Luther and finally moving to Bippus. Mr. Deal died Aug. 5, 1999.
In addition to being a full-time homemaker raising their two children, she also worked at Memcor, Huntington as a secretary and then the County Home in Huntington as a caretaker.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Bippus where she taught Sunday school and served as the church secretary.
She loved flowers and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. In her senior years, she became an avid reader and BINGO player. She was fond of her cats, especially CeCe.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet A. (Rudolph) Kunzelman, St. Charles, Ill.; and a son, Paul D. (Carla) Deal, Huntington; five grandchildren: Charlene Martinez, Asa Tavis Quinn Deal, Danielle McNally, Jason McNally, Steve McNally and eight great-grandchildren.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, Emanuel S. Cooper.
The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Calvary United Methodist Church, Bippus.
