Triton Volleyball: Wanemacher Setting Sail For Winona Lake
BOURBON – A three-sport star, Triton High School senior Hannah Wanemacher could have chosen any of three paths to forge a college career. Wanemacher chose to head east on US 30 and land at Grace College to continue her volleyball career.
Wanemacher was a standout in volleyball, basketball and tennis, but chose to become a Lancer for Katie Van Hofwegen’s volleyball program. Wanemacher helped Triton become a Class 1-A volleyball power, leading the team to four straight sectional titles. This past season, Triton won 16 games and the Culver Sectional title, with Wanemacher the primary setter for the club.
Wanemacher had a big senior year for the blue and gold, hoisting up 551 assists (5.7 assists per set), and digging 185 attempts. She also had 26 aces and 12 solo blocks, assisting on 13 others. The senior was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball and a 12-letter athlete in total.
On the basketball court, Wanemacher was just as vital to Triton’s success, helping the Trojans to 43 wins in four years and scoring 846 career points. Wanemacher was voted the Hoosier North Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year as a junior after leading the Trojans to an undefeated run in the conference.
As a tennis player, Wanemacher and Triton won the HNAC conference for the third straight year and are unbeaten in conference play. With playing partner Emma Ross at No. 1 doubles, the duo are unbeaten in dual matches at 11-0 heading into the conference tournament this week.
Grace College enjoyed one of its finest seasons in program history in 2017, going 23-17 overall and making the NCCAA tournament for the fourth time in seven years. Van Hofwegen returns for her fourth season for the Lady Lancers.
