Baseball
The NorthWood baseball team came up on the short end of an 11-8 final at Concord.
The Panthers outhit the host Minutemen 9-8, but issued nine walks in dropping the Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Concord took control of the contest with a six-run second inning. Jack Lietzen slugged a grand slam homer to lead the way in the frame for the Minutemen.
NorthWood, which lost its second straight NLC game after starting 6-0 in league play, plated four runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 7-7. Concord answered with four runs in the home half of the fourth, sparked by a two-run single by McDougle, to take control right back.
Preston King took the pitching loss in relief for the Panthers. He went one and one-third innings, allowing three runs. Sawyer Warren gave up six runs on four hits with three strikeouts in two innings as the starter for NorthWood.
Brant Mast was 2-2 with a home run and two walks to lead the offense.
NorthWood, ranked No. 8 in Class 3-A, falls to 12-3 overall and goes to 6-2 in the NLC. Concord improves to 3-9 overall and moves to 3-5 in league play.
NorthWood plays at Northridge and Concord travels to Plymouth in NLC action Friday night.
Softball
The NorthWood softball team lost 5-1 to visiting Concord.
The Minutemen scored four times in the third inning to take control of the Northern Lakes Conference contest.
NorthWood scored its lone run in the sixth frame. Concord, which remained undefeated in NLC play, outhit the Panthers 6-4. NorthWood also had four errors in the game.
Gracie Clark led the Panthers with a double.
The trio of Alexis Klotz, Halie DeMien and Kylie Hochstetler each had a single for the Panthers.
Concord improves to 12-1 overall on the season.
NorthWood hosts Northridge and Concord hosts Plymouth in NLC games Friday evening.
