Milford Man Accused Of Strangling Woman Who Wouldn’t Buy Him Alcohol
MILFORD — A Milford man was arrested after a female stated he strangled her when she refused to buy him alcohol.
Leyon Joseph Gilliam Jr., 25, 315 Ulrich Drive, Milford, is being charged with strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 25, an officer with the Milford Police Department responded to a domestic complaint at Gilliam’s residence. Upon arrival, Gilliam advised that he and a female were arguing but that everything was okay and there was “no problem here.”
The female advised that Gilliam had asked her to buy him some alcoholic beverages and when she refused he became angry. According to the female, Gilliam placed his hands around her neck and squeezed, making it difficult to breathe. Gilliam then stuck his fingers down her throat and caused her to vomit. The officer observed and photographed two scratches on the left side of the victim’s neck and one scratch on her face.
There were two children present at the residence during the altercation.
Gilliam was given a portable breath test that resulted in .13 BAC. He was arrested and booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. Gilliam has since been released from jail and has an initial court hearing scheduled for May 31.
