NorthWood Tennis: Panthers Claim Two Invite Titles
It was a day filled with championships for the NorthWood girls tennis program on Saturday.
The NorthWood varsity ladies claimed top honors in the DeKalb Invitational, while the JV squad captured first place in the Jimtown Invitational.
The Panthers had a trio of championship performances at DeKalb in totaling 32 points to edge out Westview by a single point for the team title.
Junior Reegan Miller went 3-0 on the day to earn the No. 2 singles title for NorthWood. Junior Gretchen Adams took top honors at No. 3 singles with a 3-0 mark. The senior tandem of Kennedy Wiens and Betsy Nunemaker continued their strong play with a 3-0 record to earn the title at No. 1 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles team of junior Riley Graber and sophomore Lauren Mikel posted a 1-2 mark to finish in fourth place. Sophomore Alex Jesse was 2-1 at No. 1 singles and placed fifth.
Fort Wayne Dwenger was third with 21 points, followed by Fort Wayne Snider (13), DeKalb (10), Bluffton (9), Bellmont (7) and Blackford (2).
The NorthWood JV team went 3-0 in the tourney hosted by Jimtown. The Panthers topped Westview 3-2, Concord 3-2 and Jimtown 4-1.
Freshman Kate Stillson went 2-1 in No. 1 singles play to pace the JV Panthers. Also helping NorthWood earn the team title were Kennedy Kuhn, Alessandra Hoffmann, Jessica Kramp, Caroline Mullet, Kelsi Blucker, Morgan Berry, Paige Henschel and Abigail Richner.
NorthWood plays at Bremen Monday and travels to Warsaw Tuesday evening.
