Softball
Tippecanoe Valley’s softball team downed Three Rivers Conference foe Southwood by a lopsided 11-3 final on the road in Wabash Monday night.
The Lady Vikings broke it open early with six runs in the top of the second and never trailed on the way to the win.
Kayla Scott finished 3 for 3 at the plate with three runs and an RBI, and Bailey Engholm finished with two RBIs for the Lady Vikings. Sydney Howard, Taylor Rogers and Jordan Krotke also batted in runs for Valley.
Howard went the distance inside the circle, giving up eight hits with seven strikeouts and no walks for two earned runs by Southwood.
Makayla Bechtold, Kassity Simpson and Keagan Simpson recorded two hits apiece, and MaKenna Pace took the loss in the circle for the hosts.
Valley hosts Pioneer today at 5 p.m.
Baseball
Tippecanoe Valley’s baseball team managed just two hits against Southwood, and the Vikings suffered an 11-1, Three Rivers Conference setback in five innings on the road Monday.
Tucker Shull and Layne Prater collected Valley’s only two hits, and Shull scored his team’s only run against Southwood starter Gabe Lloyd, who struck out four and walked two while going the distance for the win.
Tristin Hayslett went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Knights at the plate.
Ethan Yates got the loss for Valley, giving up four hits with two Ks and two walks for five runs — three earned — over three innings of work.
The Vikings travel to CMA today with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
