‘Mommy and Son Knight’ Benefits The Rose Home
NORTH WEBSTER — It was a “knight” to remember at tonight’s fundraiser for The Rose Home. The annual “Mommy and Son Knight” dance and fundraiser was held Saturday night, April 21, in North Webster.
The Medieval-themed event raises money for The Rose Home, an addiction recovery residence for women. Last year, about $1,000 was raised for The Rose Home, located in Syracuse, at the same event.
This was the fourth year for the fun evening, and there were some new changes to the event. A new location, the event was held at The Owl’s Nest in North Webster and the food was catered by The Sleepy Owl.
The Rose Home board member, Brittney Dudeck, said close to 60 mothers and their sons attended the event.
“It’s a night for anyone with a little guy, a mom and son, or a grandparent, to enjoy a couple of hours and make some memories,” she said.
Jonel Shepherd, who attended the event with her son Wrigley, 1, said, “It was just a way to have fun with my son” and help a worthy cause.
Nathasha Deters came with her son Carter, 4. A friend told me about it, and we thought I’d be fun.”
The event featured a Slushee bar, crafts, pictures, and a deejay. Mothers and their sons danced at the two-hour event and feasted on dinner.
The prize for best-dressed duo went to Kimberly Halferty and her son, Vincent, 7, who dressed up as a viking. They won a $50 Pizza Hut gift card.
Dudeck said, “The Rose Home is always looking for volunteers and donors with a passion to help others.”
