Warsaw Man Arrested After Stealing, Placing False Barcodes On Items At Wal-Mart
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after stealing and placing false barcodes on items at Wal-Mart.
Knikolas Dustin Disbro, 32, 502 Chinworth Ct. 2, Warsaw, is being charged with four counts of making false sales documents, all level 6 felonies; and four counts of theft, all class A misdemeanors.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 16, officers responded to a report of theft at Wal-Mart.
Officers spoke with a loss prevention employee, who stated that she discovered a male subject, Disbro, had stolen items from Wal-Mart on March 10 and 12.
On March 10, Disbro put a barcode from a wooden craft anchor, valued at $.77, onto a Dremel tool, valued at $59.97. Disbro went to a self check-out and scanned the Dremel tool as a wooden craft anchor.
He then went to his vehicle. Upon his return to the store, he went to the customer service area and returned the Dremel tool with no receipt and received $62.03 on a Wal-Mart shopping card.
On the same day, Disbro entered the store, grabbing groceries and fireball whiskey. He scanned two packages of lunchmeat with a package of cheese underneath. He didn’t scan the lunchmeat, only the cheese. Disbro then pretended to scan a 12 pack of ale. He left all points of pay without purchasing the meat or ale.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 12, Disbro went to Wal-Mart and once again placed a barcode from a wooden craft anchor, valued at $.77, onto a Dremel tool valued at $78. He went to a self check-out and scanned the Dremel tool as a wooden craft anchor.
On April 16, the loss prevention employee recognized Disbro as an individual that had been stealing from the store.
As she followed Disbro around the store, he selected two packages of toilet paper and went to the self check-out. He scanned the cheaper package of toilet paper while the other one was stacked on top. Therefore, he only scanned the lower item.
The loss prevention employee confronted Disbro and he willingly went to the loss prevention office. He informed the employee that he had been stealing from Wal-Mart to survive.
Upon his arrest, officers found a package of deli meat in Disbro’s right front jacket pocket. Disbro admitted that he stole nonessential items and returned them with no recepit in exchange for a Wal-Mart shopping card.
Disbro was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on April 16, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
