Valley Sports Wrap: April 19
Baseball
Tippecanoe Valley’s baseball team saw a late-inning rally fall just short yet again in an 11-10 loss to Pioneer Thursday night.
Trailing 10-6 in game that saw a combined 18 hits and nine errors by the two teams, the Vikings plated four runs over the sixth and seventh innings to knot it up at 10-all in Royal Center before Pioneer plated a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.
Tanner Trippiedi homered and doubled and drew a pair of walks on his way to four runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases, but he was saddled with the tough-luck loss taking the mound in the seventh. Tucker Shull also homered on his way to two RBIs, and Lucas Walters and Ethan Yates both doubled for Valley. Drew Hartman recorded a pair of hits, two stolen bases and three RBIs in the loss.
Valley hosts Taylor in a doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m.
Boys golf
Valley’s boys golf team split a three-way meet at Pond View Thursday, beating Caston 237-276 but falling short of North Miami’s 212 score.
Cade Brouyette paced the Vikings with a 42, while Carter Kistler and Corey Fincher followed up with scores of 56 and 62, respectively. Mason Purvis shot 77, and Billy Gillman was close behind with a 78.
David Beck shot 46, Cody Hankis carded 48, and Colin Redman carded 49 to lead the Warriors.
Caston got a 52 from Noah Rushinsky.
Valley’s golf team returns to action at the Whitko Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m.
Girls tennis
The Lady Vikings tennis squad suffered a 5-0 loss to Three Rivers Conference foe Whitko Thursday.
The closest match acme at 2 doubles, where Hannah Parson and Haley Baker took five games from Katherine Ousley and Blair Creamer but fell, 6-2, 6-3. Kaleigh Shumaker and Makenzie Costello fell 6-2, 6-1 to Jenna VanCurren and Kahkinsey Myers at 1 doubles, and Valley’s singles lineup took just five total games over three courts versus their Wildcats counterparts.
Valley will travel to Bremen for a tournament Saturday at 10 a.m.
