KOSCIUSKO — K21 Health Foundation is continuing to celebrate its 20th year of serving the community by providing a $20,000 gift to Beaman Home. The board of directors decided to recognize Beaman for the work they do in Kosciusko County, providing shelter, safety and outreach services to victims of domestic violence.

The organization has been serving the community for over 30 years. Founded by Altrusa International of Warsaw, club members realized that domestic violence victims in Kosciusko County had no place to go to make a fresh start when escaping their abusive relationships. The nearest emergency shelter was over an hour away and the distance made leaving seem impossible to many victims. 

With the help of club members, community leaders and volunteers, Beaman Home welcomed its first battered woman on July 1, 1985. The original shelter was a single-family home donated by N. Charlene Bradbury, and served the organization for more than 30 years. Realizing the need to expand the facility and services, Beaman raised over $2 million to purchase and completely renovate a new facility located on Parker Street in Warsaw. The new shelter provides victims of domestic violence, both male and female, and their children, with a safe and secure residence, as well as a variety of programs and services designed to help them make a fresh start.

“K21 recognizes that when families are living in situations of domestic violence, their ability to live safe and healthy lives is severely affected,” said K21 Foundation President and CEO Rich Haddad. “Our community is blessed to have Beaman Home here and we thank the dedicated Staff and Board of Directors for their many decades of dedication to the victims of domestic violence in Kosciusko County.”
