Valley Sports Wrap: April 12
Track and field
Tippecanoe Valley’s track and field teams took a pair of losses on the road at Manchester Thursday.
Manchester’s girls won 70-49, and the Squires won the boys meet, 90-33.
Jameson Baker, Will Hassenplug and Chase Brower went one-two-three in both the shot and discus for Valley’s boys. Baker recorded a 49’ 1 1/2”, Hassenplug threw 42’ 4 1/2”, and Brower threw 41’5” in the shot, while the trio threw 138’0”, 121’4” and 116’2”, respectively, in the disc. Dakota Parker won the 400 in a time of 53.5, and Jordan Owens won the 800 in 2:12.3. Jon Humes was third in the long jump with a 17’9 1/4” leap, Parker was third in the 100 in 12.09, and Matthew Howes finished third in the 1600 in 5:26.
Isaiah Davis collected three wins for Manchester, winning the long jump with a 19’5 1/2” mark, the high jump with a 6’2” clearance, and running a leg on the Squires’ winning 1600 relay team. Monty Pattison won both hurdles races with a 19.4-second stop in the 110 race and a 49.9 stop in the 300 hurdles, and he ran anchor for his team’s winning 3200 relay, as the home team swept the top spot in each relay race. Nick Wagner ran legs on Manchester’s 400 and 1600 relays and won the 100 with an 11.87 time.
Alyssa Brito collected four wins for Valley’s girls, winning the 200 in 28.81, the long jump with a 14’10 1/4” leap and runnings legs for Valley’s winning 400 and 1600 relay teams. Olivia Smith won the high jump with a 4’8” mark. Hannah Gibbons placed second in both the shot put and the discus with respective throws of 29’4” and 86’4”. Gabby Olson was second in the 300 hurdles (57.8), Caleigh Byer was second in the 100 hurdles (19.2), Delaney Wagoner placed second in the 800 (3:06.5) and third in the 1600 (6:42), Sarah Tucker was second in the 100 (14.25), Valeria Jimenez was second in the 400 (1:07.4), Sidney Wagoner was third in the long jump (13’9”), and Cora Alber placed third in the shot (27’10 1/2”).
For Manchester, Katie Parker won both hurdles races (18.1 and 53.7), Mikayla Genovese was tops in both the shot and discus (29’9” and 90’3”), and Kailea Kerr won the 100 and 400-meter dashes (14.22 and 1:06.1) and was second in the 200 (29.95).
Girls tennis
Valley’s girls tennis team suffered a 5-0 shutout at the hands of Knox Thursday.
Kaleigh Shumaker and Morgan Gilbertson extended Caitlin and Carissa Kulpa to 13 games in the second set at two doubles but ultimately fell in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. Tiphanie Hodge took six games from Maria Hasneri before falling 2-4 at two singles.
The Lady Vikings took just one game on the other three courts in Knox.
Boys golf
Tippecanoe Valley’s boys golf team fell to Culver Military and Rochester in a three-way meet on the road Thursday.
The Vikings put up a 248 score behind CMA’s winning 173 and Rochester’s 182. Leading Valley was sophomore Cade Brouyette with a 44. Carter Kistler shot 63, Mason Purvis turned in a 64, and Billy Gilman put up the Vikings’ fourth score of 77. Billy Jaques-Robbins carded 83 for Valley’s toss-out.
Softball
Tippecanoe Valley’s softball team fell 16-5 to Winamac on Thursday.
Kirstyn Yoder went 2 for 2 at the plate with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Sydney Howard went 2 for 3 with two more doubles and two runs scored. Bailey Engholm, Alex Gomez and Amy Baca collected the Lady Vikings’ other hits, and Gomez batted in a run.
Kayla Scott took the loss in the circle, giving up 10 hits and a walk for eight runs — four earned — while lasting three innings.
