Warsaw Community Public Library Celebrates National Library Week
By Ann Zydek, library director
WARSAW — Celebrate National Library Week April 8 to 14 at the Warsaw Community Public Library.
This year’s theme is “Libraries Lead.” Libraries lead by meeting community needs and interests for access, resources and spaces. How has the library led you to something you value in your life? Was it to a favorite writer or book? A career change? A new passion? A diploma? New friends?
Tuesday, April 10 is National Library Workers Day, a day to recognize the valuable contributions made by library workers. What are your memorable experiences?
See a robotics demonstration by the Kosciusko County 4-H Robotics club from 2 to 4 p.m. Relax to easy listening music provided by local musician David Haney as he performs a piano concert at 6:30 p.m.
Register for the World War II presentation with Matt Pylant at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 and see his authentic artifacts.
Thursday, April 12 is Take Action for Libraries Day. Consider coming to the Friends of the Library’s Love-A-Book Café from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—a mid-size book sale with pastries by Hop Fly Bakes and coffee or tea for purchase. Visit, buy a book, congregate and enjoy quiet conversation while lingering with coffee and a treat.
Participate in the Friends “Blind Date with a Book” by buying a wrapped “blind date” book. Read it and by May 1 return your “blind date” rating to enter a drawing. Also, join a special story time for youth up to age six as we Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) on Beverly Cleary’s birthday at 11 a.m.
Play free Bingo at the library at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, for fun and prizes. Adults must accompany children under 13. Do the building wide LEGO scavenger hunt all week. Return completed LEGO forms at service desks for a chance to win a $25, Amazon gift card. Free popcorn will be served daily from 2 to 4 p.m.
Warsaw Community Public Library is excited to unveil a new original piece of artwork during National Library Week. Created by local artist Jacob Shriner, the print features Theodore Dreiser, a classic Hoosier author who grew up in Warsaw.
The library is hosting a hashtag event. Come to the library, take a selfie with the painting and post it to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #WarsawReads. Make the photo public if sharing on Facebook, because all participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 Amazon gift card.
