Warsaw Acquires Final Temporary Right-Of-Way For Second Phase Of Market Street Project
WARSAW — The Warsaw Board of Works approved a claim for the final temporary right-of-way needed for the second phase of the Market Street project during a brief meeting held this morning, March 29.
The final temporary right-of way is located at 1116 E. Market St. Nine other temporary right-of-ways were previously acquired with no issue, but the last one posed a little problem. The property was in foreclosure therefore no one was able to grant the right-of-way request. The property was recently purchased in a tax sale by Brown Properties and the acquisition was able to occur. The temporary right-of-way was purchased for $500, the same amount as the other nine right-of-ways.
“It was an unfortunate hiccup in the long process of getting this project started,” said Warsaw Mayor Joseph Thallemer. “It was certainly unavoidable.”
The city was originally planning on seeking bids for the project in March or April but that will now happen in July or August. This will set the project behind schedule by a few months. The majority of the construction is expected to occur in 2019.
The $1,682,000 project involves the rehabilitation and widening of Market Street from Hickory to Bronson streets. The project work consists of two 10-foot driving lanes, on-street parking, sidewalk on the north side, 10-foot multi-use trail on the south side, roadway lighting, intersection improvements and storm drainage improvements.
The board also approved a last minute travel request from the Warsaw Police Department. The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy requested Gordon Allen to attend the academy and train recruits from May 1 until May 4.
