Kosciusko
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
7:40 a.m. Monday, March 26, Lapoint Drive, west of Camelot Trail, Milford. Drivers: Fernando Mejia, 58, East Lapoint Drive, Milford, Tyree A. Jones, 31, Hickory Road, Mishawaka. Melia told police he was backing out of his driveway when he collided with a garbage truck driven by Jones. Damage up to $5,000.
12:06 p.m. Sunday, March 25, SR 13, south of East CR 850N, North Webster. Driver: Jozef Urbas, 67, Kirby Drive, Fort Mill, S.C. Urbas told police he was driving his vehicle northbound on SR 13 when two deer ran into the path of his vehicle. Urbas was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Damage up to $25,000.
1 a.m. Sunday, March 25, West Railroad Street, Etna Green. Driver: Brandon S. Parker, 36, West Center Street, Bourbon. Parker told police he had been working a lot and that he drove his vehicle off the roadway, causing it to strike a parked vehicle. The owner of the parked vehicle told police he heard an engine revving and came out of his house to see Parker trying to get his vehicle off a bush. When police arrived, Parker was given a field sobriety test and transferred to the Kosciusko County Jail for operating while intoxicated. Damage up to $25,000.
9:14 p.m. Saturday, March 24, South Packerton Road and East CR 225S, Warsaw. Drivers: John K. Marhefka, 20, Sprucewood Drive, Mansfield, Ohio, Megan M. Stevenson, 16, East CR 250S, Warsaw. Marhefka was stopped in his vehicle at the intersection of CR 225S and Packerton Road. Marhefka pulled his vehicle into the intersection and struck Stevenson’s vehicle. Marhefka told police he thought Stevenson had a stop sign. Damage up to $10,000.
5:58 a.m. Saturday, March 24, North CR 300E, north of East CR 750N, Leesburg. Driver: Kole F. Adams, 22, Tecumseh Drive, Nappanee. According to police, Adams was driving his vehicle northbound on CR 300E and drove off the road for an unknown reason. The vehicle continued off the road for a period and struck a tree. Both Adams and a juvenile passenger were transported to Lutheran hospital with injuries. Police reported finding methamphetamine, marijuana paraphernalia and an unknown yellow power substance in the vehicle and obtained a search warrant for blood and urine from Adams. Damage up to $25,000.
5:27 p.m. Friday, March 23, North SR 13 and East CR 400N, Leesburg. Drivers: Kristen M. Coy, 29, EMS B62 Lane, Warsaw, Harold L. Galloway, 75, East CR 500N, North Webster. According to police, both vehicles were traveling northbound on SR 13. Galloway told police he slowed his vehicle due to another vehicle stopping in front of him. Coy reported she began to slow her vehicle but was unable to avoid rear-ending Galloway’s vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
1:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, West CR 800N, west of North CR 800W, Nappanee. Drivers: Jerry D. Burkholder, 16, North CR 625W, Nappanee, Matthew L. Toby, 36, Wedgewood North, Elkhart. Burkholder told police he was pulling out of the driveway on CR 800N and did not see Toby’s vehicle, causing Burkholder’s vehicle to collide with Toby’s vehicle as it drove by. Damage up to $25,000.
Warsaw
Officers from the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
12:48 p.m. Sunday, March 25, Lakeland Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Bradley A. Michaelsen, 43, Lakeland Drive, Warsaw. Michaelsen told police his foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator while he was attempting to park his vehicle in front of his residence. Michaelsen said this caused his vehicle to back up quickly and run into a brick wall. Damage up to $10,000.
