SYRACUSE — Wawasee High School juniors Morgan Adkins and Lesley Tayagua created a fundraiser to help raise money for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund. The two are part of the Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy and were challenged to create a community service project.
Their project, “Hoopin’ for a Cause,” included a breast cancer awareness night at a home boys basketball game Jan. 26. Throughout the night a raffle took place and four breast cancer survivors were honored. All the proceeds will go to families throughout the county who are affected with cancer.
With just the fundraiser alone, Wawasee students and the community were able to raise $740.67. Wawasee Kiwanis Club also donated $100 and Wildman Business Group, Warsaw, donated $250, bringing the total raised to $1,090.67.
