Grace Baseball: Pair of RedHawks Flying To Winona Lake
WINONA LAKE – Grace baseball didn’t need to travel far to find a pair of recruits for next season.
Goshen High School offered up a pair of Grace commits as Phil Wertz and Joey Peebles both declared they will continue their baseball and academic careers with the Lancer program.
Wertz is a four-year letterwinner in baseball and also starred on the basketball team. At Goshen, Wertz is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, PACT and is a member of his church’s youth group. Wertz is planning on majoring in Actuarial Science.
Peebles is also a four-year letterwinner in baseball and was a lifter on the cheer team for three years. At Goshen, Peebles is a member of PACT, intramural basketball and is member of his church’s youth group. Peebles is planning on majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
The two helped Goshen to a 21-9 record last season and a 9-5 mark in the Northern Lakes Conference. The win total for the RedHawks was the most since 1989, and had the team pick up a sectional win before losing to eventual state runner-up Penn, 10-6.
With the addition of the two Goshen signees, Grace will have five players from Elkhart County schools on its roster next year.
