NORTH WEBSTER — After over 20 years of protecting the lakes and land in the Upper-Tippecanoe River Watershed The Watershed Foundation has updated their logo and brand with the support of the K21 Health Foundation.
“This investment will help us better communicate our passion, mission, and focus – while differentiating us from other organizations,” said TWF Executive Director, Lyn Crighton.
“The new logo is a purposeful representation of who we are,” she continued. “The three-lined water drop embodies our vision for healthy land and water across Kosciusko, Noble and Whitley counties. It also looks like crop rows, which represents the importance of healthy land and soils too.”
This change is a clear break from the previous logo under the Tippecanoe Watershed name, which was misleading to some thinking that “Tippecanoe” referred to only Lake Tippecanoe, and not realizing the watershed expands to where they live, work, and farm.
TWF’s unique pro-active approach to stopping pollution is also now prominently featured in its new tagline: Taking Action for Healthy Lakes.
“This statement represents our focus and dedication to (1) Implementing solutions to water pollution, (2) Engaging youth & adults, and (3) Uniting partners across our watershed!” explained Crighton.
TWF implements pollution reduction projects; stopping pollution at its source (on the land) before it reaches local waters. TWF’s conservation team provides support to (mostly agricultural) landowners.
“Together we identify problem areas, discuss solutions, and implement projects to protect our water quality, improve soil health, and increase productivity,” explained Crighton. “Obtaining funding, overseeing engineering and design, and ensuring the completion of these projects are among TWF’s main strengths.”
Many of these projects necessitate the creation of alliances throughout the watershed. From TWF’s diverse Watershed Management Committee, to the Clean Waters Partnership in the Warsaw-Winona area, TWF has a history of bringing together community leaders and natural resource experts to implement programs and support projects that impact the health of our watershed.
Engagement is also a key part of TWF. The foundation strives to engage youth and adults in opportunities where they can take action to help maintain and improve the health of our watershed through events such as Snapshot Monitoring Day, an annual Lake Leaders Gathering of 15 Lake Association Leaders and the Indiana.ClearChoicesCleanWater.org campaign energizing others to take responsibility for our water.
The Clear Choices, Clean Water campaign created by TWF and the White River Alliance in Central Indiana has won many state and national awards, including the Indiana Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. The campaign is even expanding across the country. Simple actions, such as picking up pet poo, and limiting fertilizers applied to lawns add up and make a difference! “To learn more about TWF, visit WatershedFoundation.org, and make sure to like us on Facebook for the latest updates,” said Crighton. “We hope everyone shares our enthusiasm for these updates, as we look forward to many more years of protecting and improving our lakes, land, and watershed together.”
