Warsaw Chess Standouts Shine In Regionals
WARSAW — Several Warsaw Community Schools elementary chess leagues recently celebrated success at the Goshen SCI Team Regional competition held at Goshen High School. The event, held Saturday, Feb. 24, invited more than 55 teams from all over northern Indiana to take part in the competition.
Warsaw Community Schools had a large number of chess players turn out for this event from Lincoln, Madison and Washington STEM. A total of 12 teams from Warsaw Community Schools competed at the event, which lasted nearly seven hours.
Each team played a total of five chess rounds to earn points which determined the school’s ratings. In the sixth and under section there were 29 teams at the tournament with the top 15 places qualifying for state. From Warsaw, in third place was Lincoln A, in fifth place Lincoln B, in eighth place Madison A, in tenth place Lincoln C and in 14th place was Washington A team.
In the third grade and under section there were 23 teams competing. All third and under teams and qualifying sixth and under teams are invited to compete in the state competition, which will be held in Hammond, Ind., on March 24.
