Dr. Angela LaSalle Will Lead Discussion On Overcoming Sugar Addiction
WARSAW — The typical American consumes almost five times the recommended serving of sugar per day but trying to cut the sugar habit is not easy. Current research shows that sugar has the same effect on the brain as drugs, flooding our receptors with the feel-good chemical dopamine. This chemical reaction makes us crave more sugar, creating a vicious sugar cycle. To complicate matters, there are hidden sugars in almost all prepackaged foods listed under different names like dextrose, fructose and corn syrup.
Parkview Warsaw’s Center for Healthy Living is pleased to host Angela LaSalle, MD, Parkview Physicians Group – Integrative Medicine, for a free discussion from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 to discuss the physical, mental and psychological effects of sugar and how to find balance in our relationship with sugar. The discussion will be held at the Parkview Center for Healthy Living, inside the Parkview Warsaw YMCA at 1305 Mariners Drive, Warsaw.
A recognized leader in integrative medicine, LaSalle is one of the first physicians to obtain board certification in Integrative Medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine. A graduate of Indiana University’s School of Medicine, LaSalle’s practice focuses on the field of endocrinology, with special emphasis on the interplay of hormones, nutrition and lifestyle on the balance of neurotransmitters and the immune system.
