Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
5:59 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, East CR 225S, east of South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Driver: Jordan M. Shepler, Miller’s Drive, Mentone. Shepler told police he was driving westbound on CR 225S when a deer entered the roadway. Shepler said he was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Damage up to $5,000.
2:11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, East CR 1300N, west of North CR 300E, Milford. Driver: Catherine L. Hoopingarner, East CR 1300N, Syracuse. Hoopingarner told police she was driving eastbound on CR 1300N in very foggy conditions when she saw a pedestrian, Randy J. Keck, North Acorn Street, Syracuse, walking eastbound on the shoulder of the road. Hoopingarner told police she swerved her vehicle but was unable to avoid hitting Keck with the side mirror of her vehicle. Police said Keck was transported to Goshen Hospital for pain to his arm and that he was not wearing reflective clothing. Damage up to $1,000.
7:11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, North Boeing Road, Warsaw. Driver: Jonathan B. Edwards, North Main Street, Syracuse. Edwards told police his vehicle was parked next to another vehicle in a private parking lot and when he attempted to leave, he turned his vehicle sharply to the right, causing it to strike the other vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
6:13 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, North CR 200E, south of Armstrong Road, Leesburg. Driver: Michele L. Coy, North Warner Road, Syracuse. Coy told police she was driving her vehicle southbound on CR 200E and reported seeing a northbound vehicle in the middle of the road. Coy told police she guided her vehicle as far to the side of the road as possible and that her vehicle left the roadway, striking a fence. Coy complained of neck pain and was transferred to Parkview Warsaw Hospital for treatment. Damage up to $2,500.
5:16 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, West SR 14 west of CR 850W, Akron. Driver: James G. Black, North Jefferson Street, South Whitley. Black told police he was driving westbound on SR 14 when a deer ran into the path of his vehicle. He reported dense fog at the time and told police he swerved to avoid hitting the deer. Black reported his vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence row, which ran along parallel to the road. Damage up to $5,000.
4:12 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, North CR 300E, north of East CR 1000N, Syracuse. Driver: Dustin E. Shenefield, EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg. Shenefield told police he was driving northbound on CR 300E in the area of CR 1000N when a deer collided with his vehicle. Shenefield told police his vehicle had damage to the headlights, making him unable to drive the vehicle home. Damage up to $2,500.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
3:39 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, South Huntington Street, Syracuse. Drivers: Jon P. Shopoff, South Huntington Street, Syracuse, Juan R. Medina Ortiz, EMS D1 Lane, Syracuse. Shopoff told police he was backing his vehicle out of a parking spot and did not see the vehicle driven by Ortiz. Shopoff said his vehicle collided with Ortiz’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
3:31 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, South Huntington Street, Syracuse. Driver: Daisy L. Gregory, EMS D22 Lane, Syracuse. Gregory told police she was backing out of a parking space and did not see a parked car behind her vehicle. Gregory’s vehicle struck the parked vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
4:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, Husky Trail and Parker Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Patrick H. Easter, Monoquet Road, Warsaw, Leobardo R. Reyes, South CR 275E, Warsaw. Both drivers were in their vehicles at the intersection of Husky Trail and Parker Street and each, according to police, thought they had the right of way. Both vehicles proceeded into the intersection, causing the collision. Police report no witnesses, making it impossible to determine which driver had the right of way. Damage up to $10,000.
3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, SR 15 south of East Prairie Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Nicole E. Whitaker, East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw, Brittany L. Meade, Ra Mar Drive, Warsaw. Whitaker told police she saw Meade stop her vehicle at the stop light and applied brakes. Whitaker said her vehicle skidded and collided with the rear of Meade’s vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
