NorthWood Basketball: Panthers Best Bruins
NAPPANEE – The NorthWood boys basketball team led from start to finish in picking up a 60-33 win over Bethany Christian Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers raced to a 16-9 lead after the opening period and led 25-14 at intermission in the non-conference matchup in the Panther Pit.
NorthWood, which won its third straight game, outscored the Bruins 23-10 in the final frame.
Caleb Lung turned in an efficient effort to pace the Panthers. The senior hit on 7-8 shots to finish with a team-high 15 points. Lung also led his team with seven rebounds.
Kaden Gongwer dropped in 14 points to go with four steals for NorthWood. Brad Delio hit 4-4 shots from distance to finish with 13 points.
NorthWood shot 24-37 overall from the field, including 7-15 from distance. The hosts had just nine turnovers.
Seth Brenneman scored a game-high 20 points to pace Bethany. The senior hit 8-11 shots from the field. Brenneman went over 1,000 career points Thursday night in a loss to Lakewood Park and is now third in program history with 1,028 points.
Lucas Brownsberger-Keyes had 10 points for the Bruins, who lost their sixth game in a row.
Bethany shot 12-25 from the field, including 4-14 from deep. They had 16 turnovers.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 49-21. Ben Vincent had 13 points and Trent Edwards had nine for the JV Panthers.
NorthWood, now 11-5, will have a busy week coming up. The Panthers host Elkhart Memorial Monday night in the Northern Lakes Conference finale which was postponed on Feb. 9 due to the snow. NorthWood then plays at Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday night and visits Elkhart Christian Academy Friday night.
Bethany, now 3-15, plays at Jimtown Tuesday night.
